At Long Last

I’m happy to report that I finally had a good date last night.

The Designer and I had exchanged a few emails last week and made plans to get together at 9 pm last night for drinks.  I hadn’t talked to him on the phone and thought it would be a good idea to get a voice check before we met.  I called him around 6:30 pm and somehow we managed to stay on the phone for 1h and 40 minutes! I don’t even know what we talked about for so long.

We met up right after our phone chat and he definitely passed my 3-minute test.  I don’t think I’ve written about this before, but I definitely have this little mental test I do when I first meet people.  I believe that you can tell if you have chemistry with someone rather quickly - in say 3 minutes.  I actually think it’s 3 seconds, but I’ve extended it to 3 minutes to give people just a little more time.  In any case, when the Designer came in and sat down on the barstool next to me, I definitely knew we had the potential for some chemistry.

We talked about the craziness of online dating a bit and then he told me about his separation.  He is currently separated from his wife. They have 2 kids together (ages 8 and 4).  She and her new boyfriend are actually moving to New York, so the Designer was a bit sad about that.  And the Designer also smokes, which is a big turn-off for me.  He said he took up the habit again after things went sour with his marriage.  I can understand that, but I don’t think I could stand the smoking long term.

We talked for a couple of hours and then the Designer walked me back to my car, where a hug turned into a kiss.  A very long kiss.  A 2-hour kiss.  It was great.

Yay! I’m happy to hear you had a good date! Having been in the same boat of online dating for awhile now, I know how good it feels (and how much hope it brings!) when you have a good date.

Sounds like you had a good time, got some smooching in there too, and all was good. The smoking bit would be problematic for me too, but see what happens. Unless it’s a dealbreaker.

Hope to hear more good dates coming your way!

Online dating is pure, unadulterated, 100% shite. Biggest waste of time in my entire life. Unfortunate that you had to “kiss an ashtray” but a little action is better than nothing.

Woo hoo! Let’s hear it for two-hour kisses! :)
