A Woman In Uniform

There are some people who look down on Craigslist (CL). The results I’ve had with CL clearly blow Match away. Yesterday I posted a classified. Within 24 hours I had 3 responses and I just got back from a date that I got from the ad. But this post is not about CL vs. Match. This post is about a good date.

Talking to her on the phone last night to confirm the date, I felt a connection. I liked her voice and quite honestly the whole military thing is fascinating.

We met at The EARL for drinks. The conversation flowed evenly and never got one-sided. As I mentioned, she’s in the military and I was intrigued by her experiences all over the world. Her passport is “well stamped.” She’s lived in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

We discussed tricky topics like politics, religion, gays in the military and even drugs (she can’t do them). She’s quite opinionated and articulate as well. There were never any awkward moments.

There are a few things that bother me. She has a 13 year old daughter that lives with her father in another state. See a rule I’ve had is to never date a women with a kid. But 13 is not really a kid. I’ve always felt that the “just add water” family is not for me. I discussed this with a friend and she told me I should go in with an open mind.

The other thing that bothers me is her agnosticism. Another rule I have is to marry a Christian woman. It’s a dealbreakerfor me. I know that may make things difficult for me now. I think it will serve me and whoever I end up with in the long run. I’ve seen other couples who are not of the same faith and there is always a tension there.

Then again as my friend told me today, “Rules are made to be broken.”

After we left the EARL we walked down Flat Shoals and cruised to this cool store. It was once a grocery store but now art, furniture, books and clothes are sold out of the building.

We spent an hour in there looking at all the kitschy stuff. I found a case with used vinyl. I ended up buying, “The Complete Works of Shakespeare,” for a mere $10. She bought 4 cookbooks and a painting.

I walked her out to her car and we talked more. I was getting a good vibe from her. I went in the for the kiss. It was one of those kisses that linger for minutes after your lips part. Honestly I could feel her melt.

I’m going to see her again. The truth is I can’t make any judgements after spending 2 hours with her.

There is still a lot of uncertainty about South African woman. My gut tells me she’s not interested. I’m leaving the ball in her court and I’m going to wait for her next move.
