Running on Empty

I went out on 2 dates this weekend.

I met with the Illustrator on Friday night at local cafe for a drink and a small bite.  The Illustrator works at my old alma mater and is an artsy type.  When I got to the cafe I noticed that he had already ordered himself a drink - a gin & tonic.  I ordered my staple Chimay blue.  We chatted about this and that and the Illustrator just kept ordering more gin & tonics.  In fact, he had managed to consume 5 of them within the span of an hour.  Could it have been a case of nerves?  A gin & tonic fetish?  Who knows.  I had enjoyed our conversation, but knew that I would not see the Illustrator again.  But he actually asked me if I wanted to continue our date at ANOTHER BAR.  As if he needed to drink more. Oy.

Yesterday I met up with Mr. Big in, g-d help me, Lawrenceville.  My parents live up there and it turns out that Mr. Big is temporarily living out there as well.  So I conceded to meet him for a drink.  Mr. Big is 6 foot 8 inches tall.  He’s a really big guy.  And he’s got some padding, making quite an imposing figure.  Honestly, there was nothing wrong with Mr. Big.  He’s a really nice guy and easy to talk to.  But yet, there was absolutely no spark for me.  I was quite bummed. I had somewhat high hopes for Mr. Big. Alas, back to the drawing board.

So glad to hear you at least gave Mr. Big a shot. There’s really no way to know if there will be a spark or not until you meet in person, you know? But I hear ya about running on empty. There are times when I think we should gather all the singletons and go live on Aruba or something. At least the scenery would be better.

Is it just me or do you find it funny that the last 3 posts are also song titles from the 70’s and 80’s?
