beautifulpeople.net

I am a member of the creme de la creme of online dating sites, the place that only the elite go and the rest only wish they could tread. I am a member of the “Am I hot or not” inspired beautifulpeople.net, where to become a member, you must be voted attractive enough by a majority of your peers to be allowed membership. Supposedly 1 in 7 are accepted with women being far more picky than men, resulting in more women on the site than men. This site is superficiality at its best starting with the voting in process itself.

First of all, it’s all about the picture. The rating process generally goes as if it were run by your average blonde bimbo. Does anyone actually try to see through a pic to see if it shows clearly that the person truly is beautiful? Nope. If you have beauty, why would you need intelligence? For girls, wear a bikini and you are pretty much in. For those who are a bit chubby down low and want to hide it? Just show a facial picture and your raters will be none the wiser. To show relatively little of what you look like at all, just show that blurry picture when your friend was drunk and couldn’t hold the camera still or that “artistic shot” you took when you were bored. Better yet, use black and white so people can’t even tell if you’re black or white. Did you get the most recent macy’s catalogue? The guy who is most to the green in the ratings section looks very familiar, sort of like the guy in the suits and sportcoats section.

It is lonely at the top too. There are only 44 people between the ages of 23 and 34 who have been online in the last 3 days as of this writing… from the states of New York and New Jersey and Pennsylvania combined!

Even weirder, BP has events, so if you go out with someone you didn’t like, you should probably still stay friends because you might see her again. I am going on my first BP event (events are free) in August. Will it be fun or will I run away screaming like at that tall person thing…

If you find the whole process so superficial and rather random, why are you spending your time on it? What do you hope to get out of it?

Really just amusement and to see what it is all about. They gave me a free complimentary month, so I was checking it out. Going to the event gives me the chance to meet most of the people active on there without having to go on individual dates.

So I take it you were “voted in” to the site? Were you pretty confident you’d be accepted or did you have any doubts? Just curious…it’s an interesting concept.

Yup, was voted in to the site. I had no clue whether I would be voted in to begin with, but I was voted in with a comfortable margin for the most part.

Most people I know with a good pic could probably get in.

I still have to wonder why you would even want to give this a try if it’s just promoting the idea of a pretty face - and not much more beyond.
